The City of Gainesville Public Works Department works with the community to support growth that balances environmental, social and community development. Public Works programs and services contribute to the quality of life in our community.


Saved nearly $440,000 in disposal costs by diverting recyclables and yard waste from landfills


Collected more than 15,000 tons of residential recyclables and yard waste (Blue Whales weigh about 200 tons)


Generated nearly $62,000 in revenue through reuse of discarded or retired items


Collected more than 21,000 tons of residential garbage

In an effort to improve our environmental ethic and sustainability practices, the City of Gainesville Commission unanimously approved a ban of single-use plastic straws and stirrers by food service providers and retail establishments.
